I am a United Methodist pastor who’s served eight United Methodist Churches across the years in north Alabama. Most recently Asbury UMC and now for a second season at Canterbury UMC.
I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, went to Bush Elementary School and Ensley High School as my parents, uncles and aunts did. Then on to Birmingham-Southern for college and Vanderbilt for seminary.
In retrospect, I realize more than ever, since very early on, I have been fascinated by people and words - AKA faces and books. In this Blog, with the help of my friend and editor Amy Gonzalez, I have gathered some reflections that touch on the swirl of life, relationships, and faith.
I guess we are all products of the people who love and put up with us. That I am as good of a person (not as good as I wish) as I am is because of a long list of such persons. Leading the list of those who have made me a better me is Dianne my wife, Bailey and Andrew our boys. Don’t get me started on other family, friends, colleagues, and church members galore.
But I must say also, I am a better two legged critter because of the love of some four-legged critters - chief among them, dogs: Jack 2005-2018 and Sam 2021- .
So, in famous words of Dag Hammarskjold, “For all that has been, Thanks. For all that is to come, Yes.” I hope the blog is encouraging for you.
